The highest position in heaven

Learning From God's Word

The opening words of Psalm 110 are applied, in Hebrews, to our Lord Jesus Christ: “The Lord said to my Lord, Sit in the highest position in heaven until I make Your enemies Your footstool.” As we consider the mighty triumph of our Lord Jesus Christ, our hearts are filled with worship – “Hallelujah!” (Psalm 111:1; Psalm 112:1; Psalm 113:1,9).

Mourners gather at a vigil following a nearby mass shooting, Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019, in Dayton, Ohio. Multiple people in Ohio have been killed in the second mass shooting in the U.S. in less than 24 hours, and the suspected shooter is also deceased, police said. (AP Photo/John Minchillo)

Two mass shootings at crowded public places in Texas and Ohio claimed at least 29 lives in less than 24 hours and left scores of people wounded, a shocking carnage even in a country accustomed to gun violence.

In the Texas border city of El Paso, a gunman opened fire Saturday morning in a shopping area packed with thousands of people during the busy back-to-school season. The attack killed 20 and wounded more than two dozen, many of them critically.

Hours later in Dayton, Ohio, a gunman wearing body armor and carrying extra magazines opened fire in a popular nightlife area…

Too Afraid to Say Nothing: The Healthy Place of Fear in Evangelism

Yirah Group

Too Afraid to Say Nothing

On a steamy Saturday in July, I dropped off our son at a local community college to take the ACT. Earlier that morning, before leaving the house, we paused for prayer. I knew how nervous he was, how much he hates a timed test. I remembered my own anxiety and apprehension as a high schooler, realizing that part of your future rests on a few hours in a room full of strangers. So, I prayed for him not to be afraid.

Fear is a curious and powerful emotion. It can debilitate. Fear can stop our mind, shut our mouth, and stay our hand. Yet fear can also set us into action. As much as fear keeps us from taking risks and being effective, fear can also be an incredible motivator. In a way, fear is what’s made our son an excellent student thus far. It’s what kept him up studying…

I am a Disciple of Christ

In His Grip...Gratefully so...

I heard this powerful poem as quoted by Dr. Steve Lawson during a recent run…

I am a disciple of Jesus Christ…

I am a part of the fellowship of the unashamed.
The die has been cast, I’ve stepped over the line; the decision has been made;
I am a disciple of Jesus Christ.
I will not look back, let up, slow down, back away or be still.
My past is redeemed; my present makes sense; my future is secure.
I no longer need pre-eminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits or popularity.
I don’t have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded or rewarded .
I now live by faith, love by patience, live by prayer, and labor by power .
My pace is set; my gait is fast; my goal is the heaven. My road is narrow;
My way is rough; my companions few; my Guide reliable; my mission…

Everything we see is Temporary!

FaithHopeLove

“So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18

The above verse from 2 Corinthians is perhaps the most profound declaration of wisdom in the Scriptures.  Think about what is being said.  All of the things that we see with our eyes are temporary, meaning that there will be a day in the future when they will no longer exist.  Everything we can see, no exceptions!  This earth, and all that is in it, will someday be destroyed by fire when the Lord Jesus returns.  All the stars and planets of the universe will be destroyed also.  A new heaven and new earth will be created.

“But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of…

Pray According to God’s Riches

A Blog on Prayer

In her Bible Study On Bended Knee, Crickett Keeth asks what it means to pray “according to the riches of his glory (Ephesians 3:16)?”*

It means we pray expecting God “to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think (Ephesians 3:21).”

Here’s why: “The greater a person’s wealth, the greater his gift must be to qualify for giving according to his wealth. For God to give according to the riches of His glory is absolutely staggering, because His riches are limitless, completely without bounds.”**

*adapted from Crickett Keeth, On Bended Knee, p. 43.
