Competition and the Gospel

The Rogers

In 2016 Rob, an AIA staffer, took a group of students on a mission trip to Central Asia. At one place they wrestled, the host country coach asked Rob if he could bring a team to wrestle in the U.S. Plans were made to bring 14 wrestlers and coaches to the U.S., but only two could get visas, including K., a skilled wrestler who really wanted to compete here.

Wrestling Newsletter editedSo K. came and lived with Rob’s family for two months. Rob took K. to several schools to attend practices and work with many wrestlers. Because K. was such a good wrestler, he was invited by a major Division I university to stay and compete with their athletes because “iron sharpens iron,” and the coaches knew K. would be able to give their wrestlers serious competition. The head coach, assistant coach and numerous wrestlers on that team are believers who understood…

Strategic Plan / God of Hope

I-Challenge You

Sermon of the Day:

Create a Strategic Plan

Romans 15:13 NIV

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Good Morning men. I hope this morning you know that the name of Jesus alone is victory. What a beautiful name it is, the name of Jesus. Those two themes have been on my heart from two songs; check them out here and here.

The above verse from Romans is a powerful verse that encouraged me greatly the other day, as I hope it will do the same for you today.

Who is God?

The answer to that question could fill entire libraries. God’s name to the Israelites was ‘I Am’. God has many descriptive names all through the Bible. Again we could expand on…

2 Peter 1:5a

In the world in which we live, knowledge seems to be considered the end all, everything. And it’s assumed that if you know enough, you’ll do the right thing, or that this is true of society in general. What’s need is just more education. Ethics are considered quite secondary in education nowadays. If you start talking about ethics, then you’re pushing something beyond what is scientific or pure knowledge. The modern world has little regard for anything beyond what can be measured and verified scientifically. And so knowledge is on the throne, the kind that humans can gather especially in scientific ways, through ongoing hypothesis, testing, and observation. And a popular differentiation between knowledge and wisdom is all but ignored, at least too much of the time.

Actually in Scripture knowledge and wisdom are…

Parable of the Hidden Treasure

Christian Articles

Matthew 13:44

Parable of the Hidden Treasure

44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

Bible Knowledge Commentary – Matthew 13:44

13:44. In a fifth parable Jesus compared the kingdom of heaven to treasure hidden in a field. A man having discovered the treasure, then bought that field in order to have the treasure for himself. Since the Lord did not interpret this parable, a variety of interpretive views are held. In the flow of this chapter, it seems best to understand this to be a reference to Israel, God’s “treasured possession” (Ex. 19:5; Ps. 135:4). One reason Jesus came into the world was to redeem Israel, so that He could be viewed as the One who sold all He had…

“A Prayer For Prayer Warriors”

A Daily Prayer

Father, we do want to stand firm in Your will, maturing in our faith, and in the full assurance that You will lead us in the paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake.  Just like Epaphras who had a devoted heart to wrestle in prayer for his brothers and sisters in the faith, help us to wrestle in prayer for our loved ones, and for our brothers and sisters in the faith who wage war against the enemy. Our intercessory prayers are not waging war against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.  And yet we powerfully declare, “Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world!”

“A Prayer For Godly Influence”

A Daily Prayer

Father, we know that You are the Lord our God and that the Lord is one, for there is no other. We love You with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our strength. For that reason we want to impress upon our children and our children’s children the commands of Scripture so that they will have an understanding of who You are and learn about the way You want us to live. This duty of showing our children the righteous path is best taught by example and Scripture when we talk, when we walk, when we lie down at night and upon awakening in the morning. Surround us with Your blessed presence and be our covering we pray. Amen.

“A Prayer For Strength Each Morning”

A Daily Prayer

Father, we look to You this day to bring us word of Your unfailing love, for we have put our trust in You. You are our strength every morning and our security at night. Your steadfast love reaches to the heavens and Your faithfulness fills the skies. There is no one like You that provides for our every need. You are our salvation in times of distress, so it is under Your protective wings that we find refuge and safely abide.  Amen.

March 25 Everyday Opportunities

Scripture reading: Psalm 61:1–8

Key verse: Ephesians 2:10

We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

The Holy Spirit is always at work in your life, conforming you to the image of Christ; that’s called sanctification. And though you do not enhance this development through self-effort, God wants you to pay close attention to what He’s doing, even asking Him specifically to show you the aspects of His activity.

His goals for you are not mysterious; God is not trying to hide His plans for you. When you ask Him to give you direction, whether it’s for coping with daily activities or for grasping His larger vision, He will give you the guidance you request (James 1:5).

All of us have sin habits and negative behaviors that aren’t readily apparent to us. God may use the words…
