God First, Then Extras

StopAndPrayTV

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matt. 6:33

See how the Bible opens: “In the beginning God.” Let your life open in the same way. Seek with your whole soul, first and foremost, the kingdom of God, as the place of your citizenship, and His righteousness as the character of your life. As for the rest, it will come from the Lord Himself without your being anxious concerning it. All that is needful for this life and godliness “shall be added unto you.

What a promise this is! Food, raiment, home, and so forth, God undertakes to add to you while you seek Him. You mind His business, and He will mind yours. If you want paper and string, you get them given in when you buy more important goods; and just so all that we…

Accepted as a Beloved

StopAndPrayTV

The Epistle to the Ephesians is a complete body of divinity, treating of doctrinal, experimental, and practical godliness, in the most full and instructive manner. Its peculiar quality is sublimity. To be truly understood it must be spiritually discerned. O Lord, enlighten us.

Ephesians 1

Ephesians 1:1, 2

Grace first, and peace as its consequence. That peace which does not come to us as the result of grace is false and dangerous. Note how he links the Father and the Lord Jesus together; for neither grace nor peace can come to us, except through God in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 1:3, 4

All spiritual blessings come to us by the way of election, and have their fountain in eternal love; but we are not chosen that we may live in sin, God has chosen us to holiness.

Ephesians 1:5, 6

Adoption and acceptance in Christ follow upon the divine choice. Do…

Turning the World Upside Down

Renovate

upside down city.jpg

When I was a fairly new Christian, someone described the early church as a group that turned the world upside down. I don’t remember who that was or when I heard it, but the speaker’s point was that the early church really made things happen for God in the world. The idea enamored me, but it was only later that I discovered this phrase was drawn from Scripture. Specifically, it is found in Acts 17:6, where Paul and Silas are described by locals in Thessalonica in this way: “These people who have been turning the world upside down have come here also” (NRSV).

As time went on, and I read the book of Acts more closely, I realized it wasn’t that the disciples were so good that they were described as turning the world upside down, but rather that they were causing so much difficulty to be described…

On Target

Book Review: A Life Beyond Amazing: 9 Decisions That Will Transform Your Life Today, by Dr. David Jeremiah

What prevents you from living the life of your dreams? How can you thrive in the midst of adversity, discouraging headlines, and daily challenges? Dr. David Jeremiah believes the answer is found in developing the nine character qualities known as the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). In A Life Beyond Amazing: 9 Decisions That Will Transform Your Life Today, the author lays out a plan for building these qualities into our lives.

As the author explains in the introduction,

This book is about character. It’s about how we develop the character that Christ wants for us, that God makes us capable of achieving, and that the Holy Spirit is always, always ready to guide us to.

A few pages later, he explains that we play a vital role in our…

I Will Not Be Shaken ~

CHRISTian poetry ~ by deborah ann

I-will-not-be-shaken ~ CHRISTian poetry by deborah ann ~ used with permision IBible Verses

I will not be shaken,
nothing can rattle me
not even my own death
will take me, Lord from Thee.

I will not tremble,
I have nothing to fear
even if I’m all alone
God is always near.

I will not waiver,
on my Rock, I will stand
if I was to stumble
in His grace I will land.

I will not be moved,
nothing can take away
the love I have for Jesus
from His ways I’ll not stray.

I will not be shaken,
nothing will take from me
the peace, faith and hope
I have dear Lord, in Thee!

~~~~~~~
Psalm 62:1-2
“Truly my soul waiteth upon God:
from him cometh my salvation.
“He only is my rock and my salvation;
he is my defence;
I shall not be greatly moved.”
