Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding.” –
Proverbs 3:5-6

For some reason the other day, I decided to look at the cover page inside my Bible…I knew my parents had written the date alongside a note. The message they wrote was simple: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.

And it hit me.

So often, I want to take control. When things aren’t going as I had expected they would, I want to know why. I prefer driving to sitting shotgun, so to speak. Or when I feel like I don’t have any direction after I’ve been praying about something for a long time, it’s so tempting for me to take the reins.

But, as Christians, isn’t that when we run into trouble? How arrogant is it for us to get impatient…
