Jesus, ‘the Son of God’ in the Gospel of John

In the Gospel of John the emphasis is on Jesus as the holy Son of God.  John wrote (inspired by the Holy Spirit),  ‘Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not recorded in this book.  But these are written so you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His Name.’#  The fact of Jesus as the Son of God shows up in the following ways in the Gospel of John:

  • ‘Matthew wants his readers to obey the King;  Mark hopes his readers will allow the Servant to serve them;  Luke asks his readers to follow the Perfect Man;  and John writes about life, light, love, truth and glory so that his readers will love and believe in God’s glorious, light-bearing, life-bringing Son.’2
