As a Publicist, You Must Become a Master Networker

Mastering Networking is Key in Every Sector of Society

A publicist must become a master at networking.  Networking is essential in my business. Each and every day, a publicist has to set out to meet, greet and seek opportunities for their business and clients. When I am networking via social media, I provide short advisements on public relations, marketing and communications. I utilize many social media spectrums such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest to showcase my skills, creative ideas, talents and expertise by advertising and marketing my business and clients during events.  Instagram is the new social media trend; whereas, it gives people the quick eye “visual” of what you say you do. You can be creative with displaying short videos and pictures to demonstrate your product and services.  After Super Bowl XLVIII in New York, I have received over 17 inquiries about my public relations services, and I am in the process of securing several new clients. …

3 Ways to Grow Your Social Media Brand by Sean Gardner

Learning from the Pros

I participated in a social media panel at a conference back in 2011. After the discussion, a gentleman approached me and asked what I felt my social media brand was. Immediately, I told him “Inspiration, Information, Aspiration.” Why? Because when you are inspired to make a difference and informed about your options, that has a profound impact on your goals and aspirations. I uttered those words because I felt my content reflected it. That was the brand I had always set out to create.
Fast-forward to todayI am happy that I have not deviated from this. A recent article in the Wall Street Journal talked about the dark traits many use to rise through the ranks in the workplace. Traits like manipulation, narcissism, and antagonism are used more often than any of us care to acknowledge. And while they might be good for some, they have never…

First Lady Michelle Obama believes all our children should excel in school. In her seventh interview with ESSENCE, Mrs. Obama speaks candidly to Editor-in-Chief Vanessa K. Bush about her passion for higher learning, ways to nuture resilience in our kids and why parental involvement plays a critical part in securing their future.

ESSENCE: Thank you for agreeing to speak with us about your new education initiative, Reach Higher, and the importance of parental engagement in our children’s education. We know that parents cannot rely solely on educators to encourage our kids’ pursuit of knowledge. How do we get moms and dads to take more ownership?

First Lady Michelle Obama: I attribute so much of my success to my parents’ involvement. My parents were working-class folks. Neither of them went to college, but there was something clear about their expectations of us. There was no question in my mind, in my…

An Internship’s Other Purpose

Internships Lead to Exciting Opportunities

Internships serve many purposes: to expose you to potential careers, to give you work experience, to help you build professional skills, for network purposed, and to help you decide exactly what you want to do … right?

[RELATED: Tips for Landing a Last-Minute Internship]

Well, internships also serve another purpose—to show you what you don’t want to do. There is a difference between hating your internship and dreading coming to work, and simply realizing this is not the type of work you want to do for the rest of your life. My only advice for those who are offered a job they can’t stand is to be thankful for the opportunity, graciously rescind the offer, and be proactive in securing opportunities that better suit you.

Realizing early on that the internship’s requirements and assignments do not align with your goals and passions is beneficial. Understand that most internships will…

Psalm 119:9-11, “How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your…

Being Excited about our Lord Jesus Christ is a Great Way to Live

My Blog

Last night and this morning, I had the opportunity to experience something amazing- I attended my first Beth Moore Living Proof Live conference. If you don’t know who Beth Moore is, don’t worry, because I didn’t know who she was either. The best way I can describe her is a motivational speaker who is very knowledgeable in the Word; she is also a very popular author of Bible Studies in the Christian community. She periodically holds women’s conferences in various parts of the United States, and this weekend she happened to hold one in Fargo, ND. I can’t remember the last time that I went to Fargo before this weekend, but I’m so glad I went!

My interest piqued when a gal from my church encouraged me to join her at the conference early last spring. She has attended several of these before and thought it would be a wonderful…
