Following the Example of our Lord Jesus Christ in Giving

Jesus willingly gave His life for the sins of the world. “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the Spirit…” (1 Peter  3:18). Our Lord Jesus gave everything to satisfy the holiness of God and to reconcile sinful man to holy God.

As we meditate on giving and becoming better stewards of our financial resources that the Lord has graciously provided for us, the Apostle Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 8:9 point us to our Lord Jesus Christ as our supreme example for giving: “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich,  yet for your sakes, He became poor, that you by His poverty might become rich.”  This is an amazing exchange.

Our Lord Jesus Christ is our model to follow in giving to the church for the advancement of the Kingdom of God. When we give from our heart, we are giving in a Christ-like manner. When we give like Him, we allow Him to display His Glory. We will become gracious and generous like Him. We will give sacrificially like Him. Our motivation for giving our money to the Lord for His purposes must be for the Glory of God in order to make an eternal impact.

How blessed our lives and our ministries will be as we allow Christ to be magnified in our stewardship!  May the Lord bless us to be a greater blessing to the nations, to our churches, to under-supported missionaries, and to needy neighbors so that Christ will be exalted and the unsaved will hear the Gospel.
